Professor Raymond Wai-Yeung WONG is the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chair Professor of Chemical Technology at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With an exceptional track record in chemistry-related research, Professor Wong has been recognised as a Highly-Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics for seven consecutive years. Furthermore, he has been ranked as the 26th most cited scientist globally in the field of inorganic and nuclear chemistry in a Stanford University index, boasting an impressive publication record of over 800 scientific articles in high-impact international journals and an h-index of 91.

To meet the world’s future energy demands and work towards a cleaner and more resilient future, my research is dedicated to advancing technologies in the conversion between light and electricity to facilitate the efficient use of solar power, and developing new molecular materials for fabricating organic solar cells and OLEDs.

As an internationally renowned scholar, he has snatched multiple prestigious awards including the Croucher Senior Research Fellow Award (2009), Chemistry of the Transition Metals Award by the Royal Society of Chemistry (2010), First Class Prize in Natural Science Award from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (2010), FACS Distinguished Young Chemist Award (2011), Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation (2012), Second Class Prize in State Natural Science Award of the People’s Republic of China (2013), and the inaugural Research Grant Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow Award (2020). Since 2018, Professor Wong was conferred the Clarea Au Endowed Professorship in Energy in recognition of his devotion to the development of advanced materials for enhanced energy uses.

WONG Wai-yeung Raymond_text_pic Professor Wong's research concentrates on designing and synthesizing molecular functional materials and metallopolymers (1D and 2D) with photofunctional properties and energy applications. His team is committed to developing sustainable energy sources and enhancing energy conversion technologies to address future global energy needs while promoting a cleaner, more resilient future.

Apart from his dedication to advanced research, Professor Wong is committed to fostering an environment that nurtures scientific rigour. He has been leading the set-up of the first Fourier-transform Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (FT-EPR) spectrometer facility in Hong Kong (funded by the 2021/22 Collaborative Research Fund of RGC). The new facility marks Professor Wong’s dedication to improving research quality and steering the University community toward continued improvement.
