Chairman of the ACC-AQSM in HK

Prof. Guo is appointed as the Chairman of the Australia-China Centre for Air Quality Science and Management (ACC-AQSM)in Hong Kong SAR, starting in 2024. Over the past decade, ACC-AQSM center has played a pivotal role in advancing air quality improvements in China, providing essential support for air pollution control efforts. As the new Chairman, Prof. Guo will serve Hong Kong members wholeheartedly and promote in-depth cooperation in the field of atmospheric environmental protection. It is hoped that Australia and China will continue to strengthen their collaboration, expand the center's reach, attract more international research talent, and jointly tackle future challenges.

 Visit to Wuhan University - Ten Thousand People's Scheme

Led by Prof. Guo, 25 CEE academic staffs and students participated a 7-day academic research exchange program at Wuhan University from 22nd to 28th May 2023. This marks the fourth collaboration between PolyU and WHU under the Ten Thousand People’s Scheme to promote academic exchange, following previous collaborations in 2014, 2017 and 2019. The program provided the team with significant social and educational insights for their future work.

FAST Faculty Award 2019/2020

Prof. Guo’s team cooperated with a team from the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) in PolyU developed an effective antiviral, washable and reusable face mask, namely PU30, which provided an alternative to disposable face masks. The project won the Faculty of Applied Science & Textiles (FAST) Faculty Awards 2019/20 (Team Award).

Prof. Guo and his team won the Gold Medal and Special Merit Award at the 71st International Trade Fair for Ideas, Inventions & New Products (iENA) held in Nuremberg, Germany, in Nov 2019.  Visit to Wuhan University - Ten Thousand People's Scheme

Led by Prof. Guo, 23 academic staffs and students from CEE went to Wuhan University for an 8-day academic research exchange program. This visit was a key part of the Ten Thousand People’s Scheme in Mainland China and Hong Kong. This is the third time for the two departments to hold this scheme after the first two in 2014 and 2017.
This exchange program has made considerable achievements in academic and cultural exchange between Mainland China and Hong Kong, which indicated profound educational and social meanings for the future work.

 Champion of 2019 Environmental Paper Award

Prof. Guo's group received the Champion Prize and an Award Certificate from Ir Prof. Kaimin Shih, Chairman of the Award of HKIE Environmental Division, for the paper "Effectiveness of Replacing Catalytic Converters in LPG-Fueled Vehicles in Hong Kong". Dr. Xiaopu Lyu, PhD graduate Prof. Guo and postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Guo’s group, was the key person who contributed to this important paper.

Symposium on Regional Observation and Source Identification of Toxic and Harmful Air Pollutants in China

Prof. Guo and his team held a symposium on the progress of the project “Regional Observation and Source Identification of Toxic and Harmful Air  Pollutants in China” from 9th-11th Nov 2018 in Shenzhen. The project was funded by National Key R&D Program of China, Ministry of Science and Technology. Representatives from
five sub-projects of this project presented their progresses, followed by vigorous discussion with six specialists in atmospheric environment in China and other participants.

Project: Is the Is the Usual Social Distance Sufficient to Avoid Airborne Infection of Expiratory Droplets in Indoor Environments?

1 PhD Position

The candidate is expected to:

Have an educational background in mechanical engineering, environmental science, environmental engineering, building environment engineering, aerodynamics, instrument development, instrumental analysis, indoor air quality, computational fluid dynamic modelling, or related fields;

Hold a first (bachelor) degree from a 985/211 project university (only applicable for mainland China students);

Have earned a GPA of not lower than 3.5 on a 4-point scale in undergraduate study;

Take the responsibilities of design & implementation of experiments, data acquisition, analysis and dissemination, teaching assistance, and any other tasks assigned;

Write a research proposal for the PhD application independently.  


1 Postdoc Position

The candidate is expected to:

Have a PhD degree in mechanical engineering, environmental science, environmental engineering, building environment engineering, or a related discipline; 

Have research experience in building environment, fluid dynamics, numerical modelling (i.e., computational fluid dynamics), indoor air quality studies, bioaerosol, microorganism (bacteria & viruses) cultivation, aerosol characterization, respiratory disease transmission, HVAC, or related fields;
 
Have expertise in experimental studies or numerical modelling in respiratory disease transmission in indoor environments;

Have published at least 3 high-quality journal papers;

Conduct independent research and write papers & research proposals;

Guide junior postgraduate students.

Project: Responses of Air Pollution to Land Use Changes and Green Building Options in Hong Kong

1 Postdoc Position

The candidate is expected to:

Have a PhD degree in atmospheric science, environmental science, environmental engineering, meteorology, or a related discipline;

Have research experience in atmospheric modelling, numerical modelling, regional air pollution, air quality study, atmospheric physics, atmospheric chemistry, airborne particulate matter, tropospheric ozone, or related fields;

Have expertise in atmospheric transport models, e.g., WRF-Chem, WRF-CMAQ, Geos-Chem;

Have published at least 3 high-quality journal papers;
