There has been a very encouraging response to the call for papers for the La Rioja meeting with 30 abstracts submitted. To reduce problems experienced in the past with regards to timeliness and coherence a more structured approach to publications is being taken this time. Doug Pearce and Dick Butler, who have been invited to edit the resultant book, have carefully reviewed all abstracts and have been in touch with the contributors. Twenty papers have been selected for inclusion in the book proposal which has now gone off to a publisher. Thematic coherence and timeliness in revising abstracts have been the essential criteria for selection.
For those Fellows who will not be publishing their paper in this book, Tourism Analysis is offering the opportunity to publish papers in a special issue from the Academy meeting. Consistent with the Call for Papers issued earlier, authors will have the opportunity to incorporate changes and improvements into their paper after their presentation, discussion and feedback from the La Rioja meeting. Final versions of these papers should be directed to the journal by the same September 30, 2009 deadline. As papers will have benefited from a discussion and feedback process in La Rioja, an expedited blind-review process by the Editorial Board of Tourism Analysis will occur after this date consistent with the journal's publication policy. This will serve as a final check on quality to ensure that papers are of an acceptable standard both for publication and as representing the Academy's scholarship. Therefore this expedited process will not require further revisions but will involve an accept or reject decision.
