Dr Prakash Chathoth was invited to speak at the Hospitality
Vision-2008 Symposium, which was held at the Welcomegroup Graduate School
of Hotel Administration in Manipal , India from 22-23 February. The topic
of Dr Chathoth's presentation was ‘Technology and Service Leadership
in the Hotel Industry' .
The SHTM held its first virtual Professor-for-a-Day on
the PolyU virtual campus on 1 April 2008 . Professor Patti Shock from
the Harrah Hotel College at the University of Nevada , Las Vegas , gave
a lecture from the US to students in Hong Kong on the topic, ‘Marketing & Promotion
Strategy for Meetings'. Using the Second Life virtual world, Professor
Shock spoke live to our students in class, and others with access to
Second Life also joined in the session from elsewhere. On 15 April, a virtual
event management presentation was given by a professional event
planner from the US to Hong Kong students. A number of tutorials on virtual
guest room design were also held in April, during which students
were given the chance to design 70 unique virtual guest rooms in the PolyU
Virtual Hotel.

Professor Kaye Chon attended the Strategic Marketing
for Higher Education Providers Conference on 9 April 2008 at the Regal
Hong Kong Hotel and spoke on the topic, ‘Differentiating your Institution:
Tips for Effective Positioning in the Global Education Marketplace' .
PolyU organised the first campus visit for university counsellors
from international schools in Hong Kong on 15 April 2008 . Professor
Kaye Chon spoke
about the ‘Study of Hotel & Tourism Management' to
13 university counsellors from the American International School,
the Australian International School, the Canadian International School
of Hong Kong, the Chinese International School, the Delia School of
Canada, the International Christian School, King George V School, the
Victoria Shanghai Academy, the West Island School and the Yew Chung
International School.
