Three SHTM faculty members recently received awards for their excellent performance.
Dr Andrew Chan, who received the SHTM Teaching Excellence Award, has adopted a proactive and student-centred approach to teaching. He contributes to the development and administration of teaching and learning in his role as programme leader of two undergraduate degree programmes. He is also a member of the Working Group on the Implementation of the 4-Year Undergraduate Degree Structure with the responsibility of planning and implementing the new curriculum.
Dr Catherine Cheung is prolific in her basic and applied research activities, for which she received the SHTM Research Excellence Award. She has authored and co-authored 27 refereed papers in a variety of prestigious international journals, and has a successful track record in securing internal and external research grants. Dr Cheung is Chief Supervisor or Co-supervisor of both research and taught postgraduate students, and has served as a member of the School Research Committee.
Dr Tony Tse received the SHTM Service Excellence Award for his efforts in overseeing the SHTM's Work-integrated Education (WIE), managing the internship operation of some 500 students each year. He recently undertook two projects that helped the SHTM to produce the most preferred graduates for PolyU and the industry: (i) eight case studies based on actual student experiences to illustrate how students learn from their internships, (ii) WIE employer handbook and student handbook to help organisations and students engage in internships more effectively. Dr Tse also organises many training programmes and consultancy projects, such as the Hong Kong PolyU Winter School and the Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE).
The SHTM wishes to congratulate Dr Chan, Dr Cheung and Dr Tse on their excellent work!
