Croucher Summer Courses - Synchrotron radiation

Teaching and Learning

Synchrotron radiation

The Croucher Summer Course on Synchrotron Radiation concluded with resounding success from 17 June to 21 June 2024, at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). This event brought together a diverse group of PhD students and early career researchers, keen to explore the frontiers of synchrotron radiation (SR) and its applications in the burgeoning field of ACEmats.

Under the guidance of Dr. Benedict Lo and Professor Edman Tsang, the five-day summer course offered a rich program that included a blend of lectures, hands-on training, and a visit to the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). The participants engaged in a deep dive into the latest advancements of 4th generation SR sources, including the highly anticipated Shenzhen Synchrotron Radiation Facility with its dedicated HK-beamline. The course fostered a vibrant exchange of ideas, emphasizing the role of SR in tackling global challenges and advancing the field of functionally advanced materials.

The success of the course was evident in the enthusiastic participation and the rich discussions that ensued, highlighting the potential of synchrotron radiation in scientific research and its applications. This course not only enhanced understanding among the participants but also set the stage for future collaborations and innovations in the use of SR techniques. The event underscored the growing interest and investment in synchrotron radiation within the scientific community, promising exciting developments in the years to come.
