A distinguished scholar, Professor Chan demonstrates intellectual rigor and unwavering passion for his research. He was conferred the prestigious title of “RGC Senior Research Fellow” by the Research Grants Council in 2022. He received the Senior Scholar Award, RGC-Fulbright Hong Kong Research Scholar Programme, in 2013-14. He was recognised as an outstanding scholar by the RGC Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme in 2016. His international leadership has also been acknowledged with his nomination as the first social work academic board member of the Academy on Violence and Abuse—a global health professional association based in the USA.
Professor Chan’s academic outputs stand out among social scientists. He has developed innovative methodologies and digital assessment tools to measure family poly-victimization accurately. He has an impressive portfolio of over 200 research publications in health and social sciences and has consistently secured substantial and competitive research grants from both local and international funding agencies. Professor Chan’s excellence in scholarship has led to him being recognised as one of the top 2% most-cited scientists worldwide, according to an index by Stanford University since 2019. Compared to scholars in related fields, including social sciences, he is ranked among the globe’s top 1% social scientists.
