Professor Meng Ni is the Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Construction and Environment at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a distinguished scholar in the field of hydrogen and fuel cells and rechargeable batteries. Before moving to Hong Kong in 2003, Professor Ni worked on aero-engine engineering. Over his 20 years of research in Hong Kong, Professor Ni has made significant progress in hydrogen and fuel cell research and has nurtured many successful young researchers.

I’m confident that our electrolysers will be a promising solution for large-scale green hydrogen production. I also believe that Zn-air batteries will be a strong candidate for portable electronics and large-scale energy storage.

Professor Ni's outstanding academic achievements include receiving the Hong Kong Young Scientist Award in 2007, the Humboldt Research Fellowship in 2016, and awarded the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow Scheme 2023/24. He is one of the world's leading researchers in the area of solid oxide fuel cells and Zn-air batteries. His research is strongly supported by the RGC. For instance, he was awarded the RGC Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) for Zn-air flow battery research.

Ni Men_text_picHe is a highly cited researcher in the field of energy science and technology, according to ShanghaiRanking (2016) and among the top 2% most-cited scientists in the world according to a recent index by Stanford University.

In addition to his excellence in research, Prof. Ni plays an active role in the publication of top journals, underscoring his commitment to the advancement of scientific knowledge. He is a co-editor-in-chief for Energy Reviews (Elsevier) and a senior editor for Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments (Elsevier) and e-Prime (Elsevier). He also serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Green Energy (Taylor & Francis), The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering (Wiley), and Energy Storage (Wiley). Furthermore, he is an active reviewer for over 80 journals, including high-impact publications like Science, Nature Energy, Nature Communications, Joule, and Advanced Materials.
