Aims and Characteristics

Programme Aims

The BBA (Hons) Scheme in Accounting and Finance comprises the following awards. It gives students the flexibility to decide on a final award in their first year of study.

BBA (Hons) in Accountancy

This programme provides students with a well-rounded business education and an opportunity to specialise in accounting. Students are provided with an integrated academic foundation for careers as accountants with the required competencies, independence of mind, objectivity and ethical awareness.

BBA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance

The aim of this programme is to exploit the synergy between accounting and finance and prepare students to become competent accountants with a sound knowledge of finance.

The programme provides a well-rounded business education and an opportunity to specialise in accounting and finance. Students develop strong skills in accounting and finance, including accounting and financial analysis, control and risk management, and corporate governance and ethics.

BBA (Hons) in Digital Finance and Investment

This programme aims to provide students with a well-rounded business education and an opportunity to specialise in digital finance and investment management.

The highly practical programme emphasises the application of professional finance and investment knowledge, together with hands-on experience of innovative financial technologies, to address the challenges faced by modern finance and investment professionals.

Programme Characteristics

Our highly qualified academic staff share their business experience and research findings with students. Students are able to apply what they have learned through internships.

Our programmes integrate the latest technological knowledge related to business into the curriculum. New concepts such as fintech and big data are included in selected accounting and finance subjects.

Subject to availability, BBA students can spend one semester studying at another university overseas or in mainland China, with any credits accrued counting towards their corresponding PolyU degree.

Work-Integrated Education (WIE)

To graduate, every student must complete 100 hours (3 training credits) of WIE. The School offers opportunities for students to work in firms in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland during either the spring semester or over the summer. These and other forms of work experience count towards the WIE requirement.

Admission to the Scheme

All admitted students will embark on a Common Year One curriculum. Towards the end of year one, students can decide whether to continue with their initial choice or switch to another choice within the Faculty. Those who wish to change to another choice need to join a competitive process through a ranking assessment, which considers a combination of entrance qualification score, Year One GPA, and interview performance.

This offers students approximately one year to identify their area(s) of interest and career aspirations, which facilitates their Major programme selection.

The decision to admit a student to a Major programme will be made by the School in consideration of the student’s preference and overall GPA from Year One. Students will be asked to rank their choice of Major programme (in order of preference) during Semester 2 of Year One for the School’s consideration and approval.

JUPAS applicants with a DSE score of 25.0 or above in their best 5 subjects are guaranteed to be admitted to their most preferred Major programme.
