Prof. Ahmed Shaker Abdelrahman received his PhD from the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI), PolyU, in 2004. After two years of postdoctoral research in LSGI, he started his academic career in the Institute of Geomatics at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Spain. He was then hired by the Department of Civil Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU, formerly Ryerson University) in Canada. Currently a full tenured professor and Associate Dean at TMU, Prof. Shaker was formerly an Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies and Interim Graduate Program Director. Passionate about his professional community, he has been the President of Canadian Remote Sensing Society (CRSS) since 2020, and was once the Director and Vice President of the Society. Throughout his career, he also served as a Co-Chair of Toronto Branch for Canadian Institute of Geomatics, Co-Chair of Working Group IV in Commission VII, International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), and Vice-President of Commission III, ISPRS. For his excellence in research and teaching, Prof. Shaker was decorated with countless academic awards, namely Marie Curie Incoming International Fellowship by the European Commission; Dean’s Teaching Award; Faculty Scholarly, Research and Creative Activity Award; and CRSS Bronze Medal Award.

Sr Paul Chan Kit-lung is currently a partner of Engineering Surveys Limited, a leading geospatial solution provider in Hong Kong. He was conferred a BSc degree in Geomatics with First Class Honours by PolyU’s Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) in 2008. A member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors since 2012, and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors since 2013, he is also a Registered Professional Surveyor. In the last decade, he and his team have played a significant role in various large-scale infrastructure projects in Hong Kong, including Hong Kong Express Rail Link Construction, Third-Runway Construction, and Common Spatial Data Infrastructure Development, to name a few. Recently, he has been advocating the use of advanced technology in 3D Digital Mapping for Hong Kong’s development towards a smart city. Apart from his surveying practice, he is also keen on fostering new talent in the sector by researching and teaching. As a visiting instructor and visiting lecturer at LSGI in the past few years, he forms strong ties with his alma mater and generously passes on his extensive experiences in spatial data collection, utilisation, and management to his students.
