Dr Dong Ning joined the School of Public Health at Zhejiang University School of Medicine in 2024 as a ZJU100 Young Professor under the New Hundred Talents Program. Her research interests focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of bacterial infections. Specifically, she focuses on the genomic epidemiology of infectious agents, antimicrobial resistance in clinically important bacteria, the development of novel anti-infection strategies, and the application of next-generation sequencing technologies. She has led five research projects in these areas. Dr Dong has authored over 70 papers published in leading international journals, including more than 30 first- and corresponding-authored peer-reviewed papers featured in top journals such as The Lancet Microbe, The Lancet Infectious Diseases, Nature Communications, EBioMedicine, and Drug Resistance Updates. Notably, one of her papers was selected as an Essential Science Indicators Hot and Highly Cited Paper. Dr Dong also actively contributes to the academic community. She serves as a Peer Reviewer for over 30 international journals, including Drug Resistance Updates, EBioMedicine, and the Journal of Biomedical Science. Additionally, she holds editorial roles as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Microbiology, and as a Guest Editor for Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology and Genes.
Dr Sandra CHEN Shanquan
Associate Professor (Teaching), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen)
Dr Sandra Chen Shanquan is an Associate Professor (Teaching) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology with Biotechnology from PolyU in 2010, a Master of Science in Systems Engineering and Engineering Management from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2011, and a PhD in Food and Nutritional Science from CUHK in 2016. Dr Chen’s commitment to public health began after the melamine scandal in China in 2008. She is currently contributing her expertise to the WHO Guideline Development Group for Traditional Food Markets (2023–2025). Previously, she helped develop the Dietary Guidelines for Obese Children and Teenagers for the National Health Commission of the PRC. She is also currently establishing the College Student Health Branch of the Chinese Association for Student Nutrition & Health Promotion, which operates under the National Health Commission of the PRC. Dr Chen has also made significant research contributions. She served as Co-Principal Investigator of the research project Key Technologies of Food Safety Risk Grading Evaluation and Intelligent Supervision in the 2018 National Key R&D Program of China. She is also Associate Editor-in-Chief for two national textbooks, and Editor for four additional national textbooks on nutrition and health, including one for the 13th Five-Year Plan Program of the National Health Commission of the PRC.
