Summary
One of the hallmarks of UC Berkeley has been the engagement of its faculty and students in research and education that extends across disciplines, drawing on multiple approaches to address the major challenges we face in the world. These interactions at the intersections of different disciplines produce new knowledge and leverage the strengths of the disciplines to forge new endeavors. This talk, using UC Berkeley as the exemplar, will discuss the various ways in which individuals and institutions can engage in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research and education, and how they can be creatively intertwined.
