Prof. Daniel LAU Shu-ping
Chair Professor of Nanomaterials and Head of the Department of Applied Physics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Higher Diploma in Applied Physics(1990)
In the quest to combat climate change and strive towards carbon neutrality, Prof. Daniel Lau Shu-ping has taken the helm of a ground-breaking research team. Their remarkable achievement is the development of a durable, highly selective, and energy-efficient carbon dioxide (CO2) electroreduction system. This innovative system can convert CO2 into ethylene, offering an effective solution for reducing CO2 emissions in industrial applications. Through a collaborative effort with esteemed researchers from the University of Oxford, the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Centre of Taiwan, and Jiangsu University, this ground-breaking research has garnered significant recognition. Recently, their findings were published in the esteemed journal Nature Energy and received the prestigious Gold Medal at the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva in Switzerland.
