Prof. Derek Or Siu-wing is a renowned scholar with a strong academic and industrial background. He established the Smart Materials and Systems Laboratory at PolyU and successfully directed it to become a strategic technology resource for the University. Since 2002, Prof. Or has secured more than HK$55 million research grants for over 65 projects, as well as more than HK$12 million laboratory and equipment grants. His publications and recognitions are equally impressive – he has produced over 300 research publications, including 43 patents for 16 inventions, and received more than 20 international, national and local awards for his researches and inventions. Many of his works have been commercialised or deployed in various industrial sectors worldwide.
