PolyU has always been proud of Ir Dr Goman Ho Wai-ming, the first PhD graduate from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. A world-renowned expert in tall building design, this first Chinese Arup Fellow in Structural Engineering has worked for the international multi-disciplinary design firm for decades. He was the project director for many of the most challenging and innovative skyscrapers in Asia, such as the 283-metre-tall Cheung Kong Centre in Hong Kong, the 528-metre-tall CITIC Tower in Beijing, as well as the 460-metre-tall Vincom Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City. Dr Ho has also earned many professional designations, and his patented Hybrid Outrigger System scooped the Hong Kong CIC Innovation Award 2017 and The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Innovation Award 2020.
