The 5th webinar of “Enlighten@PolyU Series” explores PropTech and its impacts
The 5th webinar of “Enlighten@PolyU Series” on the topic of “How does PropTech impact our lives” was successfully held on 27 April 2021. Distinguished scholar, alumni and supporter of the University were brought together to share views on how PropTech is revolutionizing the industries, reshaping our homes and workplaces, and impacting our daily lives. The event was jointly organized by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office, Institute for Entrepreneurship and The PolyU DBA Alumni Association Limited (DBAAA). It received 760 registrations.
The webinar was presented by Prof. Eddie Hui Chi-man MH, Associate Head and Professor, Department of Building and Real Estate, PolyU; Dr William Chan, Advisor, Kerry Properties Limited and Ir Andrew Young, Associate Director (Innovation), Sino Group. Dr Charles Lam, Managing Director – Real Estate, Baring Private Equity Asia and Chairman, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University DBA Alumni Association Limited was the moderator.
Dr Lam presented a market overview of PropTech to start the dialogue. Prof. Hui introduced the rise and trend of PropTech, and talked about its current development in Hong Kong. Dr Chan elaborated the impact of PropTech from the perspectives of end-users, contributors and drivers, and used the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) as an illustration. Ir Young shared his experience and some examples of the use of PropTech. He revealed that a group of industry players has set up an alliance to create an ecosystem to accelerate the adoption and/or investment of PropTech solutions.
The panel discussion has attracted many insightful questions from the participants and led to in-depth discussion on the topic, covering applications and integrations of PropTech, as well as issues on redevelopment and sustainability. Apart from technology advancement, the group agreed that human factor plays an important role in the growth and development of PropTech.
