Alumni Workshop on Mediation and Community Dispute

On 16 January 2019, two PolyU alumni and accredited mediators, Mr Eric Ting and Mr Alex Lee, introduced mediation and demonstrated mediation techniques in resolving community disputes through role-play to over 100 alumni. This alumni workshop was jointly organized by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office of PolyU and the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations.

Alumni Talk Series: “The Under Water World Behind the Lens”

On 10 December 2018, Mr Ken Lai, PolyU alumnus and seasoned photographer, was invited to deliver a talk on the topic of “The Underwater World Behind the Lens”. Ken shared his experience and joy of underwater photography and showed many stunning photos. The talk was one of the Alumni Talk Series jointly organised by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office of PolyU and the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations. A packed audience of over 100 alumni attended the talk.

PolyU Alumni Leaders Series (Shenzhen): “Opportunities in Greater Bay Area for PolyU Students”

The first seminar of the “PolyU Alumni Leaders Series (Shenzhen)” themed “Opportunities in Greater Bay Area for PolyU Students” was held on 27 November 2018. Mr Alex Zou and Mr Norman Wu, Vice Presidents of the PolyU Shenzhen Research Institute Pearl River Delta Alumni Network, introduced the opportunities for entrepreneurs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and shared their experience in working and living in Shenzhen. Over 40 alumni and students attended the seminar.

OPAA Master Class 2018/2019

The Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association (OPAA) held its signature event "OPAA Master Class 2018/2019” on 6 November 2018. During which the Association kicked off the Mentorship Programme for 2018/2019 and presented OPAA Scholarships to six outstanding mentees of last year's programme. The occasion also offered a chance for the new mentees to meet and exchange with their mentors in person. A speaker forum on the topic of "The Journey from Good to Great" was also organised on the same day. Dr Edith Mok Kwan Ngan-hing, Fellow and Honorary Advisor of Hong Kong Computer Society shared her career and personal development. A panel discussion including speakers from three generations, including Dr Mok, a MSc alumnus and a final year student, was conducted after the talk. Around a hundred guests, alumni, staff and students attended the forum.

Get Together@Alumni Atrium - Aviation Services Research Centre and Composites Technology Workshop Guided Tour

A group of alumni interested in aviation services came back to PolyU and joined the guided tour on 19 October 2018. They visited the Aviation Services Research Centre, a co-founded facility by PolyU and The Boeing Company, and had a glimpse of the technology and equipment. They then visited the Composites Technology Workshop to learn about the Fibre-Reinforced Composites used in the aircraft construction.

Get Together@Alumni Atrium - Industrial Centre Guided Tour

On 21 September 2018, around 40 alumni gathered at the Alumni Atrium and joined the guided tour to the Industrial Centre with showcase of the latest research projects developed by students and University’s research teams, including the Formula-style Race Car, Virtual Reality Application, High-Speed Rail and Space Project.

Get Together@Alumni Atrium - PolyU InnoHub & House of Innovation Guided Tour

On 17 August 2018, a group of 40 alumni came back to PolyU to visit the House of Innovation to have a glimpse of the winning research projects at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. They also toured around the PolyU InnoHub to learn how this co-working space supports start-ups and promotes communal entrepreneurship and innovations.

Get Together@Alumni Atrium - Student Halls of Residence (Homantin) Guided Tour

A group of more than 30 alumni attended the Student Halls of Residence (Homantin) Guided Tour on 20 July 2018. They toured the hall to learn more about the students’ hall life, and visited the student rooms and common facilities, including the fitness room, band room, snooker room, student lounge, pantry and sky garden.

Tongli Alumni Network: Visit to PolyU

On 29 June 2018, we welcomed a group of 13 alumni from PolyU Tongli Alumni Network from Xi’an. The delegation visited the new campus facilities including Alumni Atrium where the Xi’an Network has donated a wooden nameplate. They also visited the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to get updates of Hong Kong’s financial market and participated in the PolyU Entrepreneurship Parade 2018 to share views on the regional collaborations for entrepreneurship in Greater Bay Area.  Executive Vice President Dr Miranda Lou hosted the networking lunch, extending a warm welcome to the delegation. A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to the PolyU Tongli Alumni Network for their generous donation to PolyU.

Alumni Talk on “Running a Successful Social Enterprise”

On 21 June 2018, Mr Timothy Ma, Founding Executive Director and Board Member of Senior Citizen Home Safety Association, and Dr Andes Leung, CEO and co-founder of RunOurCity were invited to deliver a talk on the topic of “Running a Successful Social Enterprise”. They shared their life experience and shed lights on developing and managing social enterprises. This activity was the Alumni Talk Series jointly organized by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office of PolyU and the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations.
