Alumni Talk on “Running a Successful Social Enterprise”

On 21 June 2018, Mr Timothy Ma, Founding Executive Director and Board Member of Senior Citizen Home Safety Association, and Dr Andes Leung, CEO and co-founder of RunOurCity were invited to deliver a talk on the topic of “Running a Successful Social Enterprise”. They shared their life experience and shed lights on developing and managing social enterprises. This activity was the Alumni Talk Series jointly organized by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office of PolyU and the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations.

Get Together@Alumni Atrium - PolyU Design Annual Show 2018 Guided Tour

A group of alumni interested in design came back to PolyU campus and joined the PolyU Design Annual Show Guided Tour on 15 June 2018. Over 200 design projects with a wide spectrum of topics by students of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are shown in an open-studio environment at the Jockey Club Innovation Tower. The guided tour led the alumni through the highlighted area of the Annual Show to get a glimpse of students’ design achievements.

10-year Graduation Reunion of Mainland Graduates

The year of 2018 is the 10th anniversary of graduation of the first batch of mainland undergraduates of PolyU. To celebrate this commemorative moment, a “10-year Graduation Reunion” networking event was co-organised by AADO and the Mainland and International Alumni Sub-committee of Federation of the PolyU Alumni Associations on 26 May 2018. More than 40 alumni returned to the alma mater and visited the new facilities of the campus after they parted for 10 years. The Executive Vice President Dr Miranda Lou hosted the networking lunch for the alumni, joined by Mr Alex Wong, President of the Federation of the PolyU Alumni Associations and Mr Steven Chen, Convener of the Mainland and International Alumni Sub-committee of Federation of the PolyU Alumni Associations.

Get Together@Alumni Atrium - Green Campus Guided Tour

On 18 May 2018, around 20 alumni gathered at the Alumni Atrium and joined the Green Campus Guided Tour. Various green features and facilities were introduced by the representatives of PolyU’s Campus Sustainability Office, including the eco-block, UniRe®, interactive tree map, photovoltaic solar covered walkway, U Seed urban farming programme and green column.

Pre-retirement Talk Series: The Bitterness and Joy of Retirement

On 8 May 2018, Dr Leong Che-hung, a well-known surgeon and Chairman of the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation, at the invitation of the Alumni Affairs and Development Office of PolyU and the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations, delivered a talk on the topic of “The Bitterness and Joy of Retirement”.  In his speech, Dr Leong shared his insights on retirement life. He encouraged our senior alumni to continue their lifelong learning in order to remain active in society, keep up with changing times and enjoy a fruitful life after retirement. This was the fourth talk of the Pre-retirement Talk Series, over 200 alumni attended as audience.

RUC - PolyU Doctor of Management Alumni Network Inauguration Ceremony

On 5 May 2018, Renmin University of China (RUC) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) celebrated their 15th Anniversary of joint collaboration and the inauguration of RUC-PolyU Doctor of Management (DMgt) Mainland Alumni Network with some 140 distinguished guests and alumni at China World Hotel, Beijing. RUC Vice-President Professor Du Peng, PolyU President Professor Timothy W. Tong, President of China Association for Public Companies Dr Wang Jianzhou and PolyU Executive Vice President Dr Miranda Lou officiated at the event. PolyU alumni representatives from DBA Alumni Association from Hong Kong, Pearl River Delta Alumni Network from Shenzhen, Tongli Alumni Network from Xi’an and the Preparatory Committee of Shanghai Alumni Network joined in congratulating the DMgt Alumni Network.

Meeting rooms at Alumni Atrium named after Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in recognition of the contributions made by the Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations (Federation) towards the University in the past two decades, has named two adjoining meeting rooms at the Alumni Atrium after the Federation.  The naming ceremony was held on 27 March 2018 and was officiated by PolyU President Professor Timothy W. Tong, President of the Federation Mr Alex C B Wong, and Former Presidents of the Federation Mr Kenneth Pang Tsan-wing and Ir Johnny Fan Siu-kay. Prof. Timothy W. Tong extended his profound gratitude to the Federation in his remarks for its tremendous support to mobilize its member alumni associations and gather alumni’s support for University development, in particular through the “An Atrium for PolyU Alumni • A Legacy for Your Alma Mater” fund-raising campaign launched in 2017.   Located inside the Alumni Atrium on the first floor of Chung Sze Yuen Building on PolyU campus, these two adjourning meeting rooms occupy a total floor area of 50m² and provide a convenient, comfortable and well-equipped venue for all kinds of activities such as meetings, seminars and gatherings organized by the alumni associations. The Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations was established in 1995 to unite all alumni bodies and to strengthen the ties amongst alumni, as well as to support the development of the University. The Federation is holding a photo exhibition themed “Close Ties • Cherished Memories” which presents a collection of the Federation’s memorabilia and event photos at the Pauline Tsang Po Yan Gallery, Alumni Atrium from now till 30 April 2018 (Monday – Saturday). All visitors are welcome.

Graduating Class Ambassador Scheme Swearing-in Ceremony 2018

About 100 students swore in as Graduating Class Ambassadors at a ceremony held on PolyU campus on 23 March 2018. These students are full-time final-year sub-degree and degree undergraduates and post-graduates. By swearing in as Ambassadors, they are committed to supporting the efforts of PolyU in maintaining close ties with its graduates and strengthening its alumni network. Appointment certificates were presented to the Ambassadors at the ceremony by the officiating guests including Prof. Timothy W. Tong, President of PolyU; Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President of PolyU; Dr David Ng, 1st Vice President of Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations and Ir Johnny Fan, Convenor of Alumni Ambassador Sub-committee of Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations. The ceremony was also witnessed by PolyU senior management and staff.

University Fellows Association Signature Talk and Gala Dinner 2018

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University – University Fellows Association organized its Signature Talk and Gala Dinner on 21 March 2018.  The Hon. Henry Tang Ying-yen, Chairman of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, was invited as speaker for the talk and Guest-of-Honour for the dinner.  Conducted at the Jockey Club Innovation Tower, Dr Tang shared with an audience of over 120 guests at the talk the latest development of the West Kowloon Cultural District.  President Prof. Timothy W. Tong said in his welcoming speech that PolyU shares similar vision of the West Kowloon Cultural District and has been actively promoting arts and culture among the students.  About 70 guests including University Fellows, PolyU Court and Council members, senior management, staff, student and alumni attended the dinner at Hotel ICON.  Co-Chairpersons of the Association’s Management Committee, Ms Fiona Cheung Sum-yu and Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak addressed the participants, thanking members for their continuous support for the Association and its initiatives in the past three years.  Established in 2015, the PolyU - University Fellowships Association aims to foster fraternity among the University Fellows and to enhance their roles in promoting the University’s mission in education and serving the community. The Association now has 63 Founding Members and 35 Members including six 2017/18 University Fellows joining as new members.  The Association has been giving support to facilitate the all-round development of students. At the dinner, student development sponsorships were presented to Service-Learning winning projects and scholarships were given to outstanding PolyU student athletes. Highlights of the event also included students’ sharing of Service-Learning experience and rope skipping performance by PolyU students.

Distinguished alumni shared their success at OPAA Master Class - 5th Speakers Forum

The Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association (OPAA) organised the “OPAA Master Class - 5th Speakers Forum” on 30 October 2017. The three speakers were distinguished alumni Mr Mike Wong Chik-wing, JP, Deputy Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, Ir Eric Ma Siu-cheung, GBS, JP, former Secretary for Development of the Government of HKSAR, and Dr Johnny Ng Kit-chong, Founder and Chairman of Goldford Group. Speaking on the topic of “In Search of Future”, the three outstanding PolyU graduates encouraged young people to dream boldly, to venture outside their comfort zone, and to lead a happy and healthy life. The Forum attracted the participation of about 100 guests, outstanding alumni, staff and students.  The Association also took the opportunity to present the OPAA Scholarships to six outstanding student mentees who participated in the “OPAA Master Class 2016/2017 - Mentorship Programme” and to kick off the Mentorship Programme for 2017/2018 with a gathering for the mentees and mentors after the Forum.
