苏步青应用数学奖新闻发布会在北京举行

2004年10月28日，国际工业与应用数学联合会 (International Council
for Industrial and Applied Mathematics，简称 ICIAM）"苏步青奖"
(ICIAM Su Buchin Prize) 与中国工业与应用数学学会 (CSIAM)“苏步青
应用数学奖”新闻发布会在北京教育部新闻中心举行，出席会议的有教育部
吴启迪副部长，复旦大学校长王生洪教授，清华大学副校长康克军教授等领导;
芬兰数学家，国际工业与应用数学联合会前主席Olavi Nevanlinna教授；法国
数学家，国际工业与应用数学联合会秘书长 Alain Damlamian教授；以及国内
外数十名数学家和中国工业与应用数学学会部分在京常务理事。
新闻发布会由中国工业与应用数学学会副理事长，贵州大学校长陈叔
平教授主持. 中国科学院院士，国际工业与应用数学联合会执行委员，
中国工业与应用数学学会理事长李大潜教授介绍了苏步青先生的生平
以及"苏步青奖"及"苏步青应用数学奖"的有关情况. 教育部副部长吴
启迪和高教出版社社长刘志鹏发表了讲话.
苏步青先生1902年9月生於浙江省平阳县，1931年在日本东北帝国大学
获理学博士学位，同年回国在浙江大学数学系任教，1935年参与发起
成立中国数学会，被推为《中国数学会学报》主编，1952年任复旦大
学数学系教授，1955年当选为中国科学院学部委员（院士），1960年
任中国数学会副理事长，1983年任中国数学会名誉理事长，1978年任
复旦大学校长，1983年任复旦大学名誉校长，并曾任全国政协副主席、
民盟中共副主席与名誉主席等职，2003年3月17日在上海逝世，享年逾
百岁。
ICIAM苏步青奖及CSIAM苏步青应用数学奖的设立已得到国内外学术界
及企业界的关注、重视和支持。高等教育出版社已决定对ICIAM苏步青
数学奖及CSIAM苏步青应用数学奖进行独家赞助，包括ICIAM苏步青数
学奖获奖者及CSIAM苏步青应用数学奖获奖者的奖金，ICIAM苏步青奖
获奖者赴ICIAM大会领奖的来回机票及会议期间的当地食宿费用，以及
这二个奖的评审及具体操作等费用。

为了推动工业与应用数学在全世界范围的发展，像国际数学联盟设立
菲尔茨奖（Fields奖）及亲凡林纳奖（Nevanlinna奖）一样，国际工
业与应用数学联合会（ICIAM）近年来已设立了
ICIAM拉格朗目奖（ICIAM Lagrange Prize)，
ICIAM柯拉兹奖（ICIAM Collatz Prize),
ICIAM先驱奖（ICIAM Pioneer Prize),
ICIAM麦克斯韦奖（ICIAM Maxwell Prize)
这四个奖项。在2003年7月於澳大利亚悉尼召开的第5届国际工业与应
用数学大会（ICIAM 2003）的开幕式上，曾进行了这四个奖项的隆重
的颁奖仪式。会後，在国际工业与应用数学联合会理事会年会上，顺
利通过了由中国工业与应用数学学会（CSIAM）提出的设立ICIAM苏步
青奖的建议，在前已设立的四个奖外增设了ICIAM苏步青奖.
ICIAM苏步青奖旨在奖励在数学对经济腾飞和人类发展的应用方面做出
杰出贡献的个人。和其他四个奖项一样，ICIAM苏步青奖将由特设的国
际评奖委员会负责评选，每四年颁发一次，每次一人，奖金为1千美元，
并提供得奖者参加ICIAM大会领奖的来回机票及当地食宿费用。
首届ICIAM苏步青奖将于2007年在瑞士苏黎士举行的第6届国际工业与
应用数学大会开幕式上颁发。

CSIAM苏步青奖 (CSIAMSu Buchin Prize)介绍

为了给ICIAM苏步青奖的申报在国内创造一个良好的氛围和坚实的基
础，更为了进一步地推动我们国家工业与应用数学发展，中国工业与
应用数学学会（CSIAM）於2003年11月决定设立CSIAM苏步青应用数学
奖，旨在奖励在数学对经济、科技及社会发展的应用方面做出杰出贡
献的工业与应用数学工作者。
此奖已在2004年CSIAM年会上正式宣布，以後每二年评选一次，每次不
超过二名，在CSIAM年会的开幕式上颁奖，每人奖金5万元。首届CSIAM
苏步青应用数学奖将於2006年颁发。
CSIAM苏步青应用数学奖的候选对象必须具有中华人民共和国的国籍。
CSIAM苏步青应用数学奖将在个人提供有关材料的基础上，经五位教授
级的专业人员或单位推荐，由学术水平高、掌握全局情况且办事公正的
专家组成的评奖委员会负责评选。评奖委员会包括主席一人，委员若干
人。为确保评奖质量，将成立由学术造诣高、经验丰富的资深专家组成
的顾问委员会，对整个评奖过程进行指导与监督。

Numerical linear algebra, also called matrix computation, has been a
center of scientific and engineering computing since 1946. Most of
problems in science and engineering finally become problems in matrix
computations. This book gives an elementary introduction to matrix
computation and it also includes some new results obtained in recent years.
This book consists of nine chapters. It includes the Gaussian elimination,
classical iterative methods and Krylov subspace methods for solving
linear systems; the perturbation analysis of linear systems; the rounding
error analysis of elimination; the orthogonal decompositions for solving
linear least squares problem; and some classical methods for eigen-problems.
In the last chapter, a brief survey of the latest developments in using
boundary value methods for solving initial value problems of ordinary
differential equations is given.
本书是为大学数学系信息与计算科学专业本科生编写的《数值代数》课英文版教材。
可作为综合大学、理工科大学或高等师范学校的计算数学、应用数学和工程计算等
专业的本科生教材或教学参考书，也可供从事科学计算与工程计算的科技人员参考。

An International Conference on Numerical Linear Algebra and Optimization
will be held in Lhasa, Tibet in China from August 8 to 12, 2005. This
conference is the 5th of the binnial conference, with previous ones being
held in Qingdao(1997), Nanjing(1999), Dunhuang(2001) and Guilin(2003).
The Conference will be organized by the State Key Laboratory of
Scientific and Engineering Computing, the Institute of Computational
Mathematics and Scientific/Engineering Computing, Academy of Mathematics
and Systems Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tibet University.
The sponsors of the Conference include Chinese Natural Science Foundation,
and Chinese Mathematical Society. Invited lectures on recent advances of
numerical optimization, numerical linear algebra, and their applications
will be given.

possible. Due to various constraints, the maximum number of participants
will be 60 (the up limit for overseas participants will be 30). Therefore,

(FSKD'05) will be held from 27-29 August 2005, in Changsha, China.
The conferences will feature the most up-to-date research results in
computational algorithms inspired from nature, including biological,
ecological, and physical systems. It is an exciting and emerging
interdisciplinary area in which a wide range of techniques and methodsare
being studied for dealing with large, complex, and dynamic problems.
The joint conferences will also promote cross-fertilization over these
exciting and yet closely-related areas.
Registration to either conference will entitle a participant to the
proceedings and technical sessions of both conferences, as well as the
