北京大学数学及其应用教育部重点实验室评估获优秀

2月25日,教育部科技司公示了2015年数理和地学领域教育部重点实验室评估结果。数学及其应用教育部重点
实验室(北京大学)在本次评估结果中位列优秀级别。
教育部重点实验室定期评估主要对实验室5年的整体运行状况进行综合评估,评估程序分为初评、现场考察和
综合评议三个阶段。教育部重点实验室评估指标体系主要由研究水平与贡献(50%权重)、队伍建设与人才培
养(30%权重)、开放交流与运行管理(20%权重)三项构成。教育部根据定期评估结果,对实验室进行动态调
整。未通过评估的实验室不再列入教育部重点实验室序列;评估结果为优秀的实验室优先推荐申报国家重点实
验室。

作为人体细胞能量来源的三磷酸腺苷(ATP),也可以用来驱动下一代超级计算机。加拿大研究人员的这个新发
现有望为研发只有书本大小的超级生物计算机打开大门。与动辄占地数百平方米的传统超级计算机相比,这样的
设想实在诱人。
加拿大麦吉尔大学生物工程系主任丹·尼克劳带领的国际研究团队在近日出版的《美国国家科学院院刊》上发表
论文称,他们研制出了一个超级生物计算机模型,能够利用与大型超级电子计算机同样的并行运算方式快速、准
确地处理信息,但整体尺寸却小得多,能耗也更低,因为它是依靠所有活细胞内都存在的蛋白质来运行的。
这个超级生物计算机模型的电路看起来有点像从空中俯瞰一个繁忙有序的城市道路交通图——1.5厘米大小的芯片
就是“城市”,但在蚀刻好的 “道路”上运行的并非传统微芯片中电流驱动的电子,而是蛋白质短串(研究人员
称之为“生物代理”)。它们被ATP驱动着,以可控的方式运行。
这种生物驱动的超级计算机完全不会像传统的超级电子计算机那样散热,因此无需降温处理,不仅更节能,可持
续性也更强。虽然目前的模型已经能够通过并行计算有效处理复杂的经典数学问题,但研究人员也认识到,距离
开发出全尺寸的功能性超级生物计算机还有很长的路要走。
尼克劳表示,很难断言全规模的超级生物计算机何时能够问世,但对于处理更大、更复杂的问题而言,将他们的
设备与传统计算机结合起来,形成一个混合系统或是一种很好的解决办法。目前他们正在采用多种途径推进相关

期《超级计算技术与应用》春季研讨班将于2016年3月在广州中山大学举办。本期研讨班将邀请国内外超级计算相
关领域的专家学者担任培训授课教师,培训授课内容覆盖并行计算基础、架构和算法、并行编程模型、微分方程
软件、计算科学等。

北京消息,浙江大学数学学院教授蔡天新的著作《数学传奇——那些难以企及的人物》2016年1月由
商务印书馆出版,此书系2009年广西师范大学出版社出版的《难以企及的人物——数学天空的群星闪
耀》的增订版,新增的六篇文章写的是阿基米德、冯诺伊曼、秦九韶、华罗庚、陈省身、杨振宁、
潘承洞。这次由两位诺贝尔奖得主、物理学家杨振宁先生和作家莫言先生撰写了推荐语,数学家王元
先生和张益唐教授手写了扉页题词和推荐语。至此,加上先期出版的《数字与玫瑰》和《数学与人类
文明》,蔡天新的“数学文化三部曲”修订版已全部由老牌出版社商务印书馆推出。出版以后,生物
学家饶毅主编的“知识分子”网站和经济学家梁小民撰写的文章也向大家推荐了蔡天新教授的著作。
这是一本极好的科普读物,有动人的故事,有深入的见解,有诗意的感触,也描述了数学王国的美丽

《数学传奇》新版序言
2009年初夏,广西师范大学出版社和北京贝贝特公司联合出版了我的随笔集《难以企及的人物:数学
天空的群星闪烁》。当年,此书入选深圳读书月推荐书目和青岛新闻网年度十佳图书。部分篇目被译
成五、六种文字,先后发表在《美国数学会会刊》(Notices of Amer. Math. Soc.)等报刊。有的还
被北京的“静雅思听”网站看中,邀请专业播音员朗诵制作成配乐散文播出。2013年春天,此书获得
了三年一度的高等学校科学研究优秀成果奖,此奖被普遍认为是我国文科的最高学术奖。
2004年元月,此书的繁体版由台湾高谈文化出版公司推出并参加了台北书展,杨振宁先生和莫言先生
等撰写了推荐语。在此以前,杨先生已私下里向他的几位年轻朋友推荐。夏天,我先前在浙江大学讲
授的视频公开课《数学传奇》入选国家级精品课程。此课程以《难以企及的人物》为主要蓝本,兼顾
另外两部拙作《数学与人类文明》和《数字与玫瑰》,介绍了古今中外十多位伟大的数学家。在网易、
土豆网和网络电视台等播出后受到听众欢迎,并在爱课程网上千门课程中,连续十二周位列人气榜全
国三甲。也因此,我们有了修订版的新书名。
此次修订,添加了六篇新文章,它们是甲辑的《阿基米德,数学之神》和《冯·诺伊曼:因为他,世
界更加美好》,乙辑的《秦九韶,道古桥和“数书九章”》和《罗庚与省身:两位同时代的数学大师》,
丙辑《忆潘师》和《我的一生可以看作一个圆——西子湖畔访杨振宁》。其中南宋数学家秦九韶的道
德疑案是个敏感的话题,为此我花费了较多的精力,先后造访了秦九韶的出生地四川安岳和谢世地广
东梅县。与此同时,也对旧作进行了全面润色,尤以《高斯:离群索居的王子》和《数学家与政治家》
等篇充实得最多。
这是一部需要写作一辈子的书。待到新版校样出来时,我又有了两位人物的初稿,约翰·纳什的突然
逝去和阮元的重又归来都给了我灵感。纳什的传奇容纳了数学和经济学、文学和电影,而阮元集政治
与人文、科学与教育于一身,这位清代浙江巡抚既是经学大家、一代文宗,也编撰了我国第一部科学
家传记《畴人传》,并在民间寻访到已经失传的元代数学家朱世杰的代表作《四元玉鉴》。与此同时,
阮元率先在他创办的诂经精舍书院开设天文算学课程。这个举措后来被晚清名臣、洋务运动的领袖
张之洞等欣赏和效仿,这对数学在我国的普及和发展起到非常重要的作用。
“天才即勤奋”。这句话比我们熟知的张贴在中小学校墙壁上的爱迪生语录(天才是百分之一的灵感
加百分之九十九的汗水)更简洁有力,也总结了本书各位主人翁成功的经验。这是18世纪德国物理学
家兼讽刺作家利希藤贝格的名言,他是哥廷根大学最早的名教授,静电复印技术的发明人。他的校友、
“数学王子”高斯的终生好友、匈牙利数学家沃尔夫冈·鲍耶曾写道,“很多事物仿佛都有那么一个
时期,届时它们在许多地方同时被人们发现了,正如在春季看到紫罗兰处处开放一样。”我们期待不
久将来,数学这朵明艳的花儿会开得更加鲜丽多姿。
