Professors Ryoji Noyori (Japan), K. Barry Sharpless
(USA) and William S. Knowles (USA) shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry
2001. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the Prize
for their development of catalytic asymmetric synthesis. The achievements
of these three chemists are of great importance for academic research,
and for the development of new drugs and materials which are being
used in many industrial syntheses of pharmaceutical products and
other biologically active substances.
Professors Ryoji Noyori and K. Barry Sharpless
will deliver lectures at 3:00p.m. on 29 April 2002 at Chiang Chen
Studio Theatre, PolyU.
Barry Sharpless)
