The Faculty of Construction and Land Use of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is organising a Conference around the theme "Advances in Building Technology" which embraces a sizeable portion of the research work of the four Departments of the Faculty. The University, in 1999, initiated a specially promoted programme in Advanced Building Technology as applied to a dense urban environment, as an Area of Strategic Development to build on its existing research strength in the field.

The three sub-themes of the Conference cover construction/structural technologies, information technologies and environmental technologies. The Conference is expected to attract about 250 academics, policy makers, architects, construction/project managers, environmental/fire/structural/materials engineers, surveyors, and individuals who are concerned with building technology.

Delegates to the Conference will gain a good appreciation of the technological progress being made on a wide front and can use the parallel sessions to discuss the limitations of current practice on building technologies.

The three-day programme will include keynote lectures and parallel sessions. Field trips will be organized to display outstanding examples of building technology in Hong Kong.

香港理工大學建設及地政學院將舉辦以『建築科技進展』為主題的國際會議。該會議涵蓋了學院旗下四個學系相當部分的研究工作。在一九九九年，大學特別倡議學院憑藉其既有的研究優勢，發展應用於高密度都市的先進建築科技，作為策略性學術發展領域的其中一項項目。

該會議的三個分題：建築／結構技術、資訊科技及環境科技，相信對於很多業界及學術界的工作者而言具有一定的吸引力。會議預期將吸引約二百五十人參加，其中包括學者、決策者、建築師、工程／項目經理、環境／火災／結構／物料工程師、測量師和其他關注建築科技的人士。

透過該會議,與會者除了能對技術方面的發展作全面的認識，更可以在分組專題報告時討論目前建築科技在實踐時的局限。

三天的會議程序將包括主題演講和分組專題報告。另外，大會亦會安排與會者作校外考察，參觀香港一些在建築科技方面有代表性的建築物。
