The
Faculty of Health and Social Sciences organized a festive
Faculty Open House to the general public on 23 November
in celebration of the University's 65th anniversary as well
as the Faculty's Silver Jubilee.
With
the theme of "Celebration of Diversity in Caring",
the Faculty Open House aimed to demonstrate its strengths
in social and health sciences disciplines as well as its
dedication to contributing to a better, caring society in
Hong Kong.
The
opening ceremony was joined by a host of guests including
Dr Leong Che-hung, Chairman of the Hospital Authority; The
Hon. Michael Mak Kwok-fung, Member of the Legislative Council;
Prof. Grace Tang, Chairman, Supplementary Medical Professions
Council of Hong Kong; Dr Peter Lewis, Founding Head, former
Institute of Medical and Health Care of The Hong Kong Polytechnic;
Mr L B MacQuarrie, Founding Head, former School of Social
Work of The Hong Kong Polytechnic; Prof. Poon Chung-kwong,
PolyU President, and Prof. George Woo, PolyU's Dean of the
Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.
Jointly
presented by its five constituent departments, the Faculty
Open House featured a series of symposiums, seminars, exhibitions
and guided tours during which hundreds of friends from the
professions as well as alumni, students and their families
were invited to join. These academic departments, operated
under the aegis of FHSS, are the Department of Applied Social
Sciences, the Department of Optometry and Radiography, the
Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, the Jockey Club Rehabilitation
Engineering Centre and the School of Nursing.
