Summary

Seminar Title: Fiber-Optic FRP Self-Sensing Technologies and Innovative Applications: Structural Enhancement and Health Monitoring

In addressing the urgent challenges and critical need to enhance the resilience and recoverability of engineering structures, this lecture begins by introducing a series of key technologies associated with basalt fibers, aiming at achieving superior performance, stabilization, and large-scale production. Innovative design strategies are then proposed to significantly extend the service life and enhance the comprehensive performance of basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) composites. The development of high-performance, self-sensing BFRP products is also introduced, providing efficient solutions for extending lifespan and boosting the resilience of engineering structures. In response to the urgent demand for intelligent infrastructure monitoring, the lecture emphasizes advancements in optical fiber Bragg grating, Brillouin scattering, and Rayleigh scattering distributed sensing technologies. These innovations enable area-wise distributed self-sensing and evaluation capabilities, facilitating precise monitoring of engineering structures. These key technologies have been successfully implemented in major projects, including the Dongwuyang Grand Bridge, Huangmaohai Cross-sea Channel, Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Shanghai Tunnel, and various slope applications.
