It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for its achievements on this auspicious 50th anniversary celebration.

Over the five decades, the Department has a distinguished past as a pioneer in the provision of professional training in civil and environmental engineering. Built on its solid foundation, the Department has continued to make remarkable contributions to the nourishment of engineers in meeting the city’s evolving needs and creating an innovative and sustainable environment for Hong Kong.

On this special occasion, I would like to wish the 50th anniversary celebration of the Department a fruitful and memorable event, and the Department continued success in advancing the state-of the-art of civil and environmental engineering.
