Summary

Biodiversity offers rich ecological services to humans.  It not only provides food, construction materials, medicine, etc. but also helps regulate the climate and make human society more resilient. For instance, recent years witness a sudden drop in pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Without them, food supply will be greatly affected. Therefore, the international communities are calling for effective and urgent actions to halt biodiversity loss.

One of the factors that affect biodiversity is the construction activities or large civil infrastructures, particularly linear transport infrastructures such as highways and railways. Such infrastructures not just occupy wildlife habitats. More importantly, they divide wildlife habitats into small parcels. This presentation will be focusing on potential techniques and methods to conserve biodiversity through eco-friendly infrastructure design and operation.
