Summary

Welcome to IWOBA 2025

The 1st International Workshop on Bayesian Approach in Civil Engineering (IWOBA 2025) is organized by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Centre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China. The 1st International Workshop on Bayesian Approach in Civil Engineering will take place in Hong Kong, from 10 January to 12 January 2025.

About IWOBA

IWOBA 2025 stands as the premier platform dedicated to exploring the intersection of Bayesian methodologies and civil engineering. Our goal is to assemble thought leaders, academics, and industry professionals to discuss innovative applications of Bayesian statistics in the field of civil engineering. Over the course of three days, the workshop will showcase a rich program including keynote lectures, interactive panel discussions, and technical sessions. These events are designed to not only share cutting-edge research and practical applications but also to encourage meaningful dialogue and collaboration among participants.

Workshop Themes

The Bayesian approach is grounded in probability theory and statistics, offering a structured and probabilistic framework for modelling and analysing complex systems and processes. The theme of the workshop is centred around the development and integration of Bayesian techniques in various aspects of civil engineering, including:

  • S01: Bayesian computational and stochastic simulation methods.
  • S02: Bayesian modelling and analysis in structural engineering.
  • S03: Probabilistic risk assessment in infrastructure design.
  • S04: Bayesian inference for geotechnical engineering.
  • S05: Reliability analysis and prediction using Bayesian techniques.
  • S06: Bayesian decision-making under uncertainty.
  • S07: Uncertainty quantification in civil engineering projects.
  • S08: New advances in Bayesian deep learning and its application.
  • S09: Case studies and real-world applications using Bayesian techniques.
  • S10: Others.
