New Joiner – Dr Jinxia LIU

Prior to joining PolyU as Associate Professor, Dr Jinxia Liu was an Associate Professor at McGill University, Canada, and the Director of Brace Water Center. Dr Liu leads a research program focused on reducing the environmental and health impacts of emerging organic pollutants, particularly poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Her work integrates fundamental and applied studies of PFAS environmental fate and behavior through laboratory experiments and field monitoring, using multidisciplinary approaches in engineering, chemistry, and microbiology. She has collaborated extensively with government agencies and private industries to tackle soil and water pollution issues.

Dr Liu has won numerous competitive research grants from Canadian and US funding agencies, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the US National Science Foundation, and the US SERDP program. Her accolades include the NSERC Discovery Accelerator Award, Chwang-Seto Faculty Scholar, and excellent reviewer awards from the American Chemical Society. She serves on the editorial board of Environmental Science and Technology and has acted as a scientific expert for law firms in the US, Canada, and Australia on PFAS-related lawsuits and litigations.
