Prof. Dan Tsang Elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry

Congratulations to Prof. Dan Tsang who had been elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. The Fellow will have demonstrated they hold senior responsibilities, have strategic influence within the sector or have made outstanding contributions to the chemical sciences or to the advancement of the profession.   The Royal Society of Chemistry is the UK's professional body for chemical scientists, maintains standards of competence and professional practice and provides support and representation for its members bringing together chemical scientists from all over the world.

Australia-China Alumni Awards – 2022

Congratulation to Prof. GUO Hai for winning the highly competitive Judges Commendation of the Award for Research and Science issued by the Australia China Alumni Association. The Awards Ceremony & Networking was held on 26-27 November in eight cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane).

Prof. Dan Tsang Being Recognized as Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate Analytics

Congratulations to Prof. Dan Tsang for being recognized on the list of “Highly Cited Researchers 2022” by Clarivate Analytics in the field of Engineering and Environment and Ecology. The list identifies the most influential scholars around the world, whose highly cited papers rank in the top 1% by citation for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index. Among the 12 PolyU Academics, only Prof. Tsang has been listed in two categories, which is definitely a recognition to Prof. Tsang’s high quality publication and scientific impact in his specialties.

CEE Students Won Low Carbon Concrete Trophy Competition 2022 (Students Category) - 1st Runner-up and Highest 7-day Strength

Congratulations to four CEE students for winning the 1st Runner-up and achieving the Highest 7-day Strength in Low Carbon Concrete Trophy Competition 2022 (Students Category). The group was supervised by Prof. Chi Sun Poon, Head of the Department.   This award recognizes their talent and outstanding performance in the design of the low carbon concrete.

CEE Departmental Retreat

The CEE Departmental Retreat, with over 45 staff participants, was successfully held on 29 Nov 2022.   The event covered a wide range of presentation and discussions sessions, including the mock RAE, research appraisal criteria, teaching development, promotional and marketing strategies. It was a fruitful experience to share views among staff members on the major development of the Department.

New joiner – Dr Wang Xiaoyou

Dr Wang Xiaoyou obtained her B.S. Degree (2015) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, M.S. degree (2018) from Tongji University, and Ph.D. degree (2021) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to joining PolyU as a Research Assistant Professor, Dr Wang worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at PolyU in 2022. Dr Wang's current research interests include structural health monitoring and damage detection, statistical learning, Bayesian inference, and probabilistic machine learning.   Dr Wang has joined us on 1 Dec 2022.

New joiner – Dr Liu Kai

Dr Liu obtained his Ph.D. from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 2021. He graduated with his Master’s degree from City University of Hong Kong in 2014 and earned his dual Bachelor's degrees at Wuhan University and China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) in 2009. He had six years of experience in site investigation, laboratory tests of soil and rock, and consultancy in mainland China, Hong Kong, and abroad. He also had one year of experience as a postdoctoral fellow after graduation from PolyU. Dr Liu’s main research interests include development of apparatus, experimental study, constitutive modelling, numerical modelling, and unsaturated soils.   Dr Liu has joined us on 1 Dec 2022.

CEE Job Interview Training Workshop was successfully held on 18 Nov 2022 (Friday). 19 CEE students received recruitment guidance from HR professionals and 12 mock interviews were conducted by CEE alumni with personalised advice offered. We would like to express our gratitude to the mock interviewers: Ir Ricky Chi-pan Wong, JP (Head of Civil Engineering Office, CEDD) and Mr Kenny KM Lok (Co-Founder, EnviPro Technology).
