Three CEE Scholars named Highly Cited Researchers 2021
Congratulations to Prof. Kwok-Wing Chau (Engineering), Prof. Shun-cheng Lee (Cross-Field) and Prof. Daniel CW Tsang (Environment and Ecology, Engineering) for being listed as Highly Cited Researcher 2021 by Clarivate Analytics. It identifies the world’s most influential researchers in their fields over the last decade, demonstrated by the production of multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science™. Of the world’s scientists and social scientists, Clarivate™ Highly Cited Researchers are truly one in 1,000. This is definitely a recognition to their high quality publication and scientific impact in the fields.
Prof. Kwok-Wing Chau was awarded a BSc in Civil Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Hong Kong, an MSc in Civil Engineering with Distinction from the University of Hong Kong, and a PhD from the University of Queensland in Australia. He is very active in undertaking research works and the scope of his research interests is very broad, covering numerical flow modeling, water quality modeling, hydrological modeling, knowledge-based system development and artificial intelligence applications. Prof. Chau has published over 250 Science Citation Index journal papers and the total number of citations is over 13,000 (h-index: 70). He acquired many prestigious research awards: 2008 Natural Science Class 1 Award conferred by Ministry of Education in China, 2009 Dean’s Award for Outstanding Publication Achievement (Overall performance in citation in the past 10 years), 2009 National Natural Science Class 2 Award, Dean’s Awards for Outstanding Publication Achievement (Highly-cited papers) in various years, and 2018 – 2021 Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in Engineering.
Prof. Shun-cheng Lee earned a Doctorate in Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley in 1994. He is currently a Professor and working as the Odour Research Laboratory in-charge, as well as the Associate Head (partnership) of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of PolyU. He was also appointed as Chang Jiang Scholars Visiting Chair Professor of School of Human Settlements and Civil Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University from 2019. His research focus includes chemical characteristics, source apportionment, emission profiles, atmospheric chemical development processes, health effects, and control technologies of toxic particle- and gas-phase pollutants. Prof. Lee established the first Laboratory of Carbon Aerosols in Asia in 2003 and has been leading a great number of programs in related research topics, providing significant scientific and technological supports for the development of air pollution standards and air pollution control policies in Hong Kong and Mainland China. He has published over 350 research articles, with total citation over 23,000 times (h-index: 87). He was awarded as Highly Cited Researcher (cross-field) by Clarivate in 2018 – 2021. In 2019, he was awarded as Fellow of Asian Aerosol Research Assembly (AARA).
Prof. Daniel CW Tsang is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Visiting Professor at the University of Queensland in Australia and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. He was a Visiting Scholar at Ghent University in Belgium and Stanford University in the US, Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, and Post-doctoral Fellow at Imperial College London in the UK and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dan’s research group strives to develop low-carbon technologies to achieve carbon neutrality, circular economy, and sustainable waste management. Dan has served as Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member in several top-tiered journals, and he was selected as Highly Cited Researchers 2021 in two academic fields (Engineering; Environment and Ecology). Dan also served as Chair and Organizer of many international conferences such as 5th Asia Pacific Biochar Conference.
