PolyU welcomes the re-appointments of Dr Lam Tai-fai, Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-chang and Ms Loretta Fong Wan-huen as Council Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Treasurer of the University respectively

Under their able leadership with other Council Members, PolyU will continue to capitalise on its unique strengths in education and scientific research to seize the opportunities brought about by the National 14th Five-year Plan and the Greater Bay Area’s development, so as to make greater contributions to the development of education and technology in Hong Kong and the country.

Dr Lam Tai-fai has been the Chairman of the PolyU Council since January 2019 and before that, he had been the Deputy Chairman since January 2016. Dr Lam has a long association with PolyU and was conferred the Outstanding Alumni Award by PolyU in 2001, a University Fellowship in 2000 and an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration in 2004. Over the years, Dr Lam has been actively supporting the development of his alma mater in a variety of ways. With his extensive experience in governance, as well as passion for education and public service, Dr Lam leads PolyU to further elevate its performance in nurturing talents, innovative research and knowledge transfer, so as to contribute to Hong Kong, the nation and the world. Dr Lam is also committed to numerous public duties. He is currently a Member of the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a Standing Committee Member of Henan Provincial Committee of CPPCC. He is also the Chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Institute and the Radio Television Hong Kong Board of Advisors.
Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-chang has been a member of the PolyU Council since April 2010. He took up the role of Treasurer of the University in April 2015 and became Deputy Council Chairman in January 2019. A specialist in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, he has been contributing to the community through serving on various government committees and professional bodies. He is currently a Member of the Hong Kong Housing Society, the Town Planning Board and the Finance Management Committee and Advisory Committee of the University of Hong Kong – Shenzhen Hospital.
Ms Loretta Fong Wan-huen has been the Treasurer of the University since January 2019. Ms Fong is currently the Entrepreneur Group Leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong, and the Government and Public Sector Leader in Hong Kong and Macau. She has extensive experience in providing accounting, auditing and transaction advisory services. She is active in serving the community in various capacities, including being an elected Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a Board Member of the Ocean Park Corporation and a Council Member of the General Committee of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries.
PolyU’s President, Professor Jin-Guang TENG, welcomed the re-appointments of Dr Lam, Dr Li and Ms Fong and thanked them for their excellent leadership and staunch support to the University in the past three years. He said, “Dr Lam is a visionary leader with valuable insights on university governance. Dr Li and Ms Fong both possess extensive professional experience and are passionate about community service. Under their able leadership with other Council Members, PolyU will continue to capitalise on its unique strengths in education and scientific research to seize the opportunities brought about by the National 14th Five-year Plan and the Greater Bay Area’s development, so as to make greater contributions to the development of education and technology in Hong Kong and the country.”
