29 Mar 2022
Vaccination is paramount to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to the community demand for vaccination, the Hong Kong SAR Government has established the Caroline Hill Road Pop-up Community Vaccination Centre (PCVC) in Causeway Bay, which commenced operation today (29 March). Located at the site provided by Hysan Development and the Chinachem Group, the PCVC is fully supported by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The University is operating the PCVC in a non-profit-making mode to help the community battle the pandemic.
PolyU fully supports the anti-pandemic work of the Government to help society return to normal, so that we can resume our regular way of life and bring economic activities back on track. The School of Nursing’s operation of the vaccination centre is one of the major initiatives of the University to support the fight against the pandemic. Let’s all work together to boost positive energy across society.
Dr LAM Tai-fai
Council Chairman of PolyU
Mrs Carrie LAM CHENG Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive, and Mr Patrick NIP, Secretary for the Civil Service of the Hong Kong SAR Government, visited the Caroline Hill Road PCVC today to understand its operation. They also expressed their gratitude towards PolyU and the site providers for their strong support to the Government’s vaccination programme.
The PCVC is fully operated by a team of 300 students, teaching staff and alumni from PolyU’s School of Nursing. The School’s final year students will assist in the administration of the vaccine under the supervision and support of the teaching staff and alumni who are experienced registered nurses. It is estimated that the PCVC can serve 800 to 1,000 people each day with a daily capacity of up to 3,000 people as the need arises.
Dr LAM Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU, said, “PolyU fully supports the anti-pandemic work of the Government to help society return to normal, so that we can resume our regular way of life and bring economic activities back on track. The School of Nursing’s operation of the vaccination centre is one of the major initiatives of the University to support the fight against the pandemic. Let’s all work together to boost positive energy across society.”
PolyU’s President, Professor Jin-Guang TENG, said, “PolyU encourages its staff and students to contribute to the betterment of society. We are proud that our School of Nursing is helping to operate the vaccination centre. PolyU will continue to draw on its professional knowledge and research excellence to help fight the pandemic with the Government on various fronts.”
The Caroline Hill Road PCVC offers the BioNTech vaccination to people aged 12 or above. It is open daily from 8am to 8pm and will operate until the end of June.
PolyU has been proactively taking part in various initiatives to help fight the pandemic in Hong Kong. These include setting up a call centre to support the Hospital Authority’s enquiry hotline for patients, teaming up with enthusiastic donors to distribute COVID-19 supplies to nursing homes, launching an online platform for sharing anti-pandemic information and resources with the public, and developing the “Rehab 8 Forms” fitness programme to aid post-COVID recovery.
