On 21 July, PolyU’s Shenzhen Base in the Nanshan District’s High-Tech Industrial Park was officially opened. With research funding from various sources including the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the Shenzhen Base will facilitate deeper collaboration with enterprises in Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region. It will also contribute to the nurturing of professional talents and the economic and technological development of the region.

The Shenzhen Base is a seven-storey building with a gross floor area of 12,500 square metres on a site of 5,600 square metres. It has two research platforms - "Low Carbon Technology and Sustainable" and "Health Science", each with six research centres under its aegis. It houses PolyU’s administrative, training and research units in the Shenzhen Virtual University Science Park under one roof and provides one-stop service in scientific research, training and enterprise incubation.
