On 21 February, PolyU held an award presentation ceremony to recognize nine outstanding Community Service Learning Programmes which took place in 2011/2012. A Gold Award went to the project “Cambodia Slum Survey and Digital Story Telling”. Working with volunteers from Cambodia, one team of students conducted a survey and collected data in three slum villages to identify the needs of the villagers. Another team taught children in orphanages and impoverished families how to use softwares for digital storytelling. Another Gold award was presented to a 25-day home-stay service project in Indonesia. Participating students joined hands with the local community to identify needs of rural community and suggest development strategies in the areas of hygiene and health care, tourism development, map production, education and water supply.
