On 16 October 2013, Prof. Cheng Siwei, economist and former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, gave a talk on green economy at a luncheon organized by the Faculty of Business. He suggested China to develop low carbon economy in four dimensions: (1) develop the industries which do not emit carbon dioxide; (2) reduce carbon dioxide emission in existing industries; (3) develop new technologies to make use of carbon dioxide as a raw material for industries; and (4) carbon capture and storage.
