Unique experience for new blood of fashion world |
As the sole provider of tertiary education in fashion and textiles in Hong Kong, PolyU’s Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) has been offering exciting opportunities for youngsters to pursue careers in the dynamic fashion and textiles industry. The annual student fashion shows and stimulating partnerships with industry provide exceptional learning opportunities for future industry talents. One example is the recent Annual Knitwear Fashion Show title sponsored by UPW which showcased collections of outfits from 21 graduating students majoring in knitwear design. The event not only demonstrated the creative flair and design talent of students, but also won applause from the industry. Also in May, three student teams from ITC won the opportunity to experience actual retail business from fashion buying to selling, thanks to the “Fashion Seoul Challenge” jointly organized by the Sincere Company Limited (Sincere) and the University. Sponsored by Sincere, this competition has shortlisted three out of 60 participating student teams by the merit of their business proposals and strategies. The three finalist teams travelled all the way to Seoul, South Korea, accompanied by popular artist Fiona Sit, to perform the role of merchandisers with a HK$50,000 sponsored spending budget. Not only have they gained valuable retail experience, but also brought back the latest fashion items from Seoul which are put up for sale at Sincere’s Causeway Bay store for two weeks. The champion team will be selected based on their performance on gross profit, visual merchandising and presentations, as well as public voting on social media. More excitingly, the competition has been featured on nowTV in a series of six episodes, making it the first-ever reality show jointly produced by a university, a retail store and a TV broadcaster.
