Innovatively applying printing technology on high-end merino wool, PolyU fashion design graduate Mandy Lam has combined digital printing and hot stamping in creating diverse patterns and colours coated on merino wool. The wool's soft and comfortable texture and warm-keeping function can be preserved in the inner layer of such outfit. Compared with conventional method of using wool knitting machine, this novel method is easy and inexpensive. It can also alter fabric texture, enabling a diversity of knitwear designs which may further evolve into "street fashion" for the younger generation.
At this year's PolyU Fashion Show, Mandy unveiled a collection of creative outfits made from merino wool using this new method. She finally brought home the "Best use of Australia Merino Study Tour Scholarship" for a study tour to Australia to broaden her horizon in the fashion design world.
