A team of four graduates from PolyU's School of Design took honours in New Zealand's Best Interactive Design 2014 with their innovation - "Umbrella Here". Designed with the objective of bringing strangers together on rainy days, this device consists of a Bluetooth light that can be attached to the tip of an umbrella to indicate the willingness of sharing an umbrella, and a mobile app to facilitate communication among friends who have shared umbrella before.

The team has earlier bagged an award at the University's Global Student Challenge and is now setting up a company to further develop the technology with innovative products. With the umbrella-sharing concept, the team hopes to promote a sharing culture in society.
