Prof. Gabriel Ng, Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, is conducting a three-year study on the effectiveness of nanomized Chinese herbal medicine in treating mega tendon degeneration. This research investigates the improvement of tissue biomechanical and morphological properties of experimental animals with Achilles tendon after being treated with nanomized Chinese herbal plaster. The preliminary results of its efficacy are positive.
With high permeability of Chinese herbal medicine and high retention of active ingredients from Chinese herbal medicine in cells, the approach can accelerate the rehabilitative process. Once the effectiveness of the use of nanomized Chinese herbal plaster is proved, this research will make great positive impact on the non-surgical treatment for soft tissue injury and future development of Chinese herbal medicine.
