The PolyU community was deeply saddened to learn that Prof. John F. Nash, the internationally renowned Nobel Laureate and PolyU Honorary Graduate, and his wife Alicia passed away in a traffic accident in USA on 23 May.
Indisputably, Prof. Nash was best known as one of the mathematical giants of the 20th century with his groundbreaking work in game theory, mathematical study of strategies and decision-making. More notably, he had a beautiful mind and heart in educating the talents.
In the year Prof. Nash joined the University’s Presidential Inauguration activities, he enlightened a thousand local tertiary and secondary school students with his personal experience and economic analysis in an Open Dialogue and shared his insights with nearly a thousand guests on ideal and asymptotically ideal money in a Nobel Laureate Forum. Two years later in 2011 when he was conferred a degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa by PolyU, Prof. Nash delivered the second Open Dialogue with local students again which was well-received.
Prof. Nash was a distinguished and inspiring role model to not only the students but also everyone in the academic profession. The PolyU community salutes his life and achievements. Details>>
