PolyU recently staged the fourth PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Student Challenge (GSC) which attracted 130 secondary school and university teams from 22 countries and regions to submit business proposals under the themes of Health and Wellness, Lifestyle, Environment and Sustainability, and Corporate Social Responsibility/Social Enterprise. In June, 54 teams consisting of over 200 contestants were sponsored to travel to Hong Kong to participate in the semi-final and final competitions.

The Gold Award of the University Division finally went to two teams, ClubQnect of the University of New South Wales and White Light Medical of John Hopkins University. ClubQnect is a free-to-download “social ticketing” mobile platform that facilitates interactions between event goers, prospective goers and organizers. White Light Medical is a medical device startup that develops a low-cost pedicle probe, AccuSpine, for accurate placement of pedicle screws in spinal fusion surgery.

As for the Secondary School Division, Colyton Grammar School snatched the Gold Award with their invention, StopAid, a device to alert drivers to keep a safe stopping distance. Details>>
