On 3 July, the International Symposium organized by PolyU’s Institute of Active Ageing (IAA) gathered over 400 representatives from the government, business sector, education sector and non-government organizations together, to share their latest research development and practical experiences on active ageing. In addition to Hong Kong, participants also came from Australia, the Chinese mainland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan and the US.

Officiating at the opening ceremony were The Honorable Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Dr The Honorable Leong Che-hung, Chairman of Advisory Committee of IAA; and Prof. Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President. The keynote speeches were presented by Prof. Hiroyuki Murata at Smart Ageing International Research Center of Japan’s Tohoku University, and Prof. Kathryn L. Braun at John A.
