Since its inception, the Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC) co-founded by PolyU and Boeing has made substantial progress in providing advanced aviation education and undertaking application-inspired research in advanced aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul technologies. Offering optimization solutions for such labour-intensive industry, the Centre has become a successful exemplar of research-and-innovation collaboration between academia and industry.
In a ceremony to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the ASRC, PolyU displayed the achievements of two projects supported by the Innovation and Technology Fund. These two innovations enable automation of aviation maintenance procedures (such as replacement of aircraft outer skin panels, parts restoration of turbofan blades and turbine backing ring seals). They can substantially reduce the turnover time for aircraft maintenance and airplane turnaround time. This will attract more aircrafts to undergo maintenance in Hong Kong, bringing economic benefits and strengthening the city’s position as an aircraft maintenance hub. Details>>
