The Hong Kong Innovation Academy under the School of Nursing earlier organized the 2nd Hong Kong Innovation Day and Hong Kong Innovation Award Competition. The event saw the enthusiastic participation of researchers from local medical organizations and institutions who submitted originally-generated solutions tackling current medical and health science issues. Champions of local Innovation Days will compete with overseas counterparts for the ultimate Global Innovation Award of Excellence at the Global Healthcare Innovation Day to be held next year in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The local winners are:
- Champion and Audience Favourite Award: Scolioscan: Radiation-free Assessment of Scoliosis using 3D Ultrasound Imaging by Prof. Zheng Yong-ping, Interdisciplinary Division of Biomedical Engineering at PolyU
- First Runner-up: Mobile Retinal Imaging for Smart Diabetic Care by Prof. Jane You, Department of Computing at PolyU
- Second Runner-up: Protective Pants Imbedded with Impact Protectors Based on 3D Spacer Fabrics by Ms Chan Yan, The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel
