Earlier on, PolyU and the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association jointly organized the first-ever citywide fashion festival named “Fashion Future for Hong Kong”, with an aim to nurture young fashion design talents and promote Hong Kong as a regional creative fashion hub. Over 2,500 fashion design professionals joined a series of activities, including an international fashion design seminar, a local talent alumni fashion show and an international fashion design competition. The festival also brought prominent fashion scholars and designers together to share insights on fashion design education and future fashion trends, and featured the latest collections designed by local young designers.
The international fashion design competition not only ignited new senses, but also sparked off creativity in fashion design. PolyU graduating student, Cheung Chin-yiu at the Institute of Textiles and Clothing, won the 2nd Runner-up and the Hong Kong Best Design Award among overseas counterparts, including Australia, Chinese mainland, France, Hong Kong, India, Latvia, Singapore, UK and US.
