For the first time, the PolyU-developed optical fibre sensing technology is not only installed on tracks to monitor train conditions, but also in in-service trains to monitor track safety. Recently, PolyU has collaborated with SMRT of Singapore to adopt the technology for double railway monitoring in the East West Line and North South Line, two busiest lines in the metro network of Singapore.
This collaboration will help enhance the performance of the metro system through an advanced predictive monitoring and maintenance regime, real-time analysis, staff training in operating the system and provision of five-year maintenance and technical support to SMRT.
In the past few years, this technology has been successfully adopted in other railway systems, including Hong Kong’s railway network and China’s Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Rail Line. Details>>
