Conferment of honorary doctorates

At its 22nd Congregation held on 12 November, PolyU bestowed honorary doctorates upon five prominent figures in recognition of their distinguished accomplishments and contributions. The conferment was presided over by Council Chairman Mr Chan Tze-ching and President Prof. Timothy W. Tong.

• Prof. Robert F. Engle, Michael Armellino Professor of Finance at New York University Stern School of Business and Director of NYU Stern Volatility Institute and Co-Founding President of the Society for Financial Econometrics, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Science (in absentia).
• Ms Candice Johnson, a global serial entrepreneur, a telecom networks and infrastructure expert and a creator of various international business angel communities, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Technology.
• Prof. Ko Jan-ming, Emeritus Professor and Senior Advisor of the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development of PolyU, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Engineering.
• Ms Marjorie Yang Mun-tak, Chairman of the Esquel Group - a leading Hong Kong-based textile and apparel manufacturer with worldwide operations and former PolyU Council Chairman, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humanities.
• Prof. Ye Peijian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Science and researcher at the China Academy of Space Technology, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Engineering.
