Online shoppers often encounter problems of ill-fitted clothes. In view of this, Dr Tracy Mok and PhD graduate Dr Zhu Shuai-yin from the Institute of Textiles and Clothing jointly developed the intelligent 3D human modelling technology that can digitally reconstruct the shape and size of a person accurately within 10 seconds from merely two full body photographs.

The research team analysed a large dataset with over 10,000 human scan models to explore 3D body shape features and predict under-the-clothes body profiles. Based on 2D photographs of a person, researchers can assemble his/her 2D and 3D shapes, precisely reconstruct his/her 3D model and global/local shape characteristics, and then extract accurate body measurements. This can enable customers to visualise try-on effects before purchases from online stores and select the right size of clothing. Details>>
