Two PolyU innovations scooped the “Global Innovation Awards” at the TechConnect World Conference and Expo 2018. The award-winning projects are as follows:
Composite multilayers capacitors with colossal permittivity for electronics and energy storage applications Prof. Hao Jian-hua and Ms Tse Mei-yan Department of Applied Physics These composite multilayers capacitors with colossal permittivity could simultaneously achieve large dielectric constant, negligible dielectric loss and high energy density. When compared to conventional batteries, a lot of energy can be stored without leaking out and being wasted easily. The materials used for producing the capacitors are environment-friendly, non-toxic and abundant. The development process is relatively simple and can be mass produced at a low cost. |
Low cost flame retardant treatment for cotton with co-catalyst system Dr Kan Chi-wai Institute of Textiles and Clothing Fabrics made from cellulosic fibres, such as cotton and linen, will burn easily with a high flame velocity. A co-catalyst is used in this invention to effectively enhance flame retardant treatment and minimise its side effects. The finishing formulation can be applied to cotton fabric by conventional pad-dry-cure finishing techniques that can save time and reduce the cost. |
