To promote the integration of fashion and artificial intelligence, PolyU’s Institute of Textiles and Clothing collaborated with the Vision and Beauty Team at Alibaba to develop a “FashionAI Dataset” that involves systematic analysis and labelling of fashion images. By integrating fashion knowledge and machine learning formulation, the Dataset enables machines to better understand fashion, facilitating algorithm design for machine learning and improving the accuracy of online fashion image searching. A FashionAI Concept Store was set up on PolyU campus during 4-7 July to demonstrate the new technologies in identifying the clothes selected by customers and providing personalised mix-and-match options.
In addition, both parties partnered with and The Textile Institute, UK, in organising the four-day academic conference entitled “Artificial Intelligence on Fashion and Textile Conference 2018”. The conference provided a platform for over 250 researchers, engineers, practitioners and IT professionals to share insights and research findings on the application of AI in fashion and explore directions for future development.
